Regional Author Discussion and Q&A

The love for literature is alive and well at JoMoCon. This panel features sci-fi, fantasy, and even horror authors from around the Four States area sharing their personal experiences and love of writing. Join them to hear about their latest books, get tips on becoming an author, and you’ll get to ask them some of your own questions. We may even put them to the test with some creative writing games!

Mobile suits, mechs, and robots...OH MY! These oversized machinas have been featured in anime, video games, and even live action movies for decades. This presentation will explore the back story of how giant robots became such a quintessential part of both Japanese and American entertainment.

Joplin Board Games is back to provide that traditional, kitchen-table fun to you and the fam. Pop in any time for a casual game, or join one of the scheduled competitions to play for prizes. Sign up sheets for the competitions will be located in the room. See the Schedule and Map page for competition times. All ages are welcome and all game sessions are free.

Live Action Role Play

Test your skills against some of the bravest foam fighters in the land! Meadowmere LARP is a Live Action Role Play community that focuses on inclusion and collaborative storytelling. They will be hosting mock weapon battles in the LARP Arena as well as archery. All weapons are foam props and safe for these fantasy fights. Sessions can be purchased directly in their arena. Attendees must be 10 years or older to participate.

Choose from the following events:

LARP Arena Battle: $2 per attendee; up to 8 in a session

Archery: $2 per attendee; up to 2 in a session

Jail and Bail: Make a donation to have your friends arrested and temporarily detained by Meadowmere Guards. Half of your donation will go to support this year’s featured charity.

Maid Cafes have been a beloved part of Japanese culture for 30 years, and now the crew of the Missouri based Moe MO Maid pop-up cafe would like to provide you with this magical and interactive experience. Delicious little cakes, boba teas, specialty sodas, singing dancing, cosplay clad maids and butlers…they have it all! Tickets will be available at the JoMoCon info booth.

Learn To Play TTRPG

Come join in the fun and roll some dice with the game masters of Mandalor’s Dreams. Learn the fun hobby of roll playing games, whether you are an experienced player or have never touched 20-sided dice in your life. They are offering D&D introductory sessions all day long, as well as secheduled 2 hour campaigns for veterans.The folks from Mandalor’s Dreams will even have some cool giveaways and photo ops with some D&D creatures.

Class will be in session at JoMoCon with award winning cosplayer @‌Mea_Mea_Cosplay. She will be sharing tips and tricks of the trade, specifically the art of working with EVA foam. Grab a seat and take notes on creating cosplay pieces, props, and accessories.

Learn to Play Magic: The Gathering

MagiKids is a 501c3 charity that is on a quest to get kids engaged with each other and bring out their creativity through the legendary card game Magic: The Gathering. They will be hosting a workshop and beginners tournament, complete with starter packs and prizes! You can also find their booth where they will being giving M:TG demos as well.

Improv Comic Creation

Jam comics are improvisational pages where the story is made up one panel at a time by a different artist each time. These can help you loosen up and feed off the inspiration of your fellow creators. Join local comic artist and educator, Seth Wolfshorndl, for this workshop for middle school to adult age cartoonists where they learn to make up quick comics together! Pencils and page templates will be provided, but feel free to bring other drawing media.
